With “Wicked: For Good” now out in cinemas, photos and video have been released of actress Bethany Weaver as Dorothy Gale.
The film never shows Dorothy’s face, but the new material was released via Weaver’s social media channels and includes a number of different photographs of her on the set of the movie.
One of the photos is a spoiler, so it isn’t included below. The musical itself never shows Dorothy aside from her silhouette.
Much of the reaction to the film has centered around how it reframes the events and characters of the original “The Wizard of Oz” story, with Dorothy Gale in particular being subject to some pretty harsh criticism online. The Scarecrow look has been subjected to names like ‘Temu Ryan Reynolds’, even the Cowardly Lion is getting some roasting.
Stage musical creator Stephen Schwartz recently teased to The Ankler that he and Winnie Holzman are working on another “Oz”-set project which is “not a sequel, but an adjunct”.
“Wicked: For Good” opened to a $226 million global debut last week and set multiple records for a Broadway musical adaptation and a Universal and November film release.
