Kiernan Shipka, Ike Barinholtz, Kim Coates, Yul Vazquez, David Krumholtz, Rich Sommer and Liam James will round out the cast of HBO’s five-episode “The White House Plumbers” series currently in production.
The story follows how President Nixon’s own political saboteurs and Watergate masterminds, E. Howard Hunt (Woody Harrelson) and G. Gordon Liddy (Justin Theroux), accidentally toppled the Presidency they were zealously trying to protect. Domnhall Gleason and Lena Headey also star.
Shipka (“Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”) play Smith College Republicans president Kevan Hunt while James (“The Way Way Back”) is Saint John Hunt, her sensitive aspiring musician brother.
Barinholtz (“Blockers”) will play Nixon re-election committee deputy head Jeb Magruder, Vazquez (“Russian Doll”) will play Bernard ‘Macho’ Barker who is Hunt’s devoted right-hand man who is now over-the-hill and undertrained for committing burglary.
Coates is Frank Sturgis, a former US Marine turned anti-Castro operative and The Plumbers’ muscle; Krumholtz (“The Deuce”) is fearless former prosecutor William O. Bittman; and Sommer (“GLOW”) is junior Nixon aide Egil ‘Bud’ Krogh.
Harrelson and Theroux will executive produce in addition to starring. “Veep” writers and executive producers Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck created the series and will executive produce while “Veep” showrunner David Mandel will executive produce and direct all five episodes.
