It’s end of year time and with multiple critics and guild nomination lists coming out, the landscape of critically acclaimed films for the year has become clear.
What’s never entirely clear is just where one should go to catch up on all those films. Today comes a handy and quick ‘where to watch’ guide showcasing where people can see the most buzzed about films of the year.
To come up with this list, I collated hundreds of entries from the top films lists of critical aggregation sites like Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, along with the IMDb, and then added the Top 10 lists of critics for nearly two dozen major publications.
All came together in one big list of the most frequently mentioned films to appear on those lists this year and that was subsequently whittled down to around eighty movies spanning major blockbusters to indie darlings, well-regarded genre fare, documentary features and more.
Then the list was divided into sections indicating where one can watch those films – be it in a cinema only, on PVOD either now or imminently, VOD, or a streaming service.
Which ones are the must-sees? From the results, the big ones you should probably see are “Aftersun,” “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “The Banshees of Inisherin,” “The Batman,” “Benediction,” “Bones and All,” “Decision to Leave,” “EO,” “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” “The Fabelmans,” “Good Luck to You Leo Grande,” “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio,” “Nope,” “The Northman,” “RRR,” “Tar,” “Till” and “Top Gun Maverick”.
