“Con Air” and “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” helmer Simon West is set to direct “Boundless,” a four-part Amazon miniseries about 16th century explorers.
The story follows Portuguese sailors Juan Sebastián Elcano and Ferdinand Magellan’s epic voyage around the world after they set sail five centuries years ago in an effort to disprove the theory that the world is flat.
The ships Victoria and Trinidad will be completely reconstructed for the production, while a replica of the Nao Victoria will be used, the latter being the only one of the expedition’s five vessels that returned to port.
Mono Films and Kilima Media are backing the Spanish-language series with Patxi Amezcua penning the screenplay. The project will shoot this Summer in the Dominican Republic, Canaries, and Pinewood Studios in the UK.
Miguel Menendez de Zubillaga will produce with a planned 2021 premiere on Amazon Prime being targeted.
