A decade after they last worked together on “Moonrise Kingdom,” Focus Features is getting back into bed with filmmaker Wes Anderson for his new feature “Asteroid City”.
A new official synopsis and cast list have been released for the star-studded film with a notable exclusion from the list being Anderson’s longtime collaborator Bill Murray. Though he was reported as one of the cast members, his absence from the list is notable and it’s unclear if those casting reports were premature.
The film is described as: “a poetic meditation on the meaning of life. It tells the story of a fictional American desert town circa 1955 and its Junior Stargazer convention, which brings together students and parents from across the country for scholarly competition, rest/recreation, comedy, drama, romance, and more.”
The stacked cast includes Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Ed Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Stephen Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Tony Revolori, Jake Ryan, Grace Edwards, Aristou Meehan, Sophia Lillis, Ethan Lee, Jeff Goldblum, and Rita Wilson.
A release date for “Asteroid City” has yet to be announced but with the film already deep in post-production, it’s expected to be sooner rather than later.
