Focus Features has premiered the one-sheet for Wes Anderson’s new film “Asteroid City”, which will score a limited release on June 16th before expanding a week later on June 23rd through Focus Features.
The poster arrives ahead of the film’s official trailer which is releasing tomorrow. Though not official as yet, the film is very likely to be premiering in May at the Cannes Film Festival in the same way his “Moonrise Kingdom” and “The French Dispatch” have done in the past.
Set in a fictional American desert town circa 1955, the itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organized to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.
The cast is a blend of both familiar Anderson regulars and new to an Anderson film. The packed ensemble includes Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jason Schwartzman, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Stephen Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Tony Revolori, Jake Ryan and Jeff Goldblum.
Bill Murray was also due to star but, due to COVID, he ended up being replaced by Steve Carell. Anderson wrote the film with Roman Coppola and produces it with Steven Rales and Jeremy Dawson.
