Back in February, Wes Anderson’s new romantic comedy-drama “Asteroid City” was officially given an R-rating from the Motion Pictures Association of America for “brief graphic nudity”.
Many of Anderson’s previously directed movies have been rated R, including “The Grand Budapest Hotel” and “The French Dispatch”. However, Anderson and Focus Features revealed they intended to make an appeal to the Classification and Rating Administration’s Appeals Board in order to hopefully change the decision.
It appears that appeal has been successful with Maverick’s Movies reporting that the film has now received a PG-13 for “brief graphic nudity, smoking and some suggestive material”.
Set in a fictional American desert town circa 1955, the itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organized to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.
The cast mixes familiar Anderson regulars and new to an Anderson film. The packed ensemble includes Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jason Schwartzman, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Stephen Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Tony Revolori, Jake Ryan and Jeff Goldblum.
Anderson wrote the film with Roman Coppola and produced it with Steven Rales and Jeremy Dawson.
