Music icon Abel ‘The Weeknd’ Tesfaye will join acclaimed young actors Barry Keoghan (“The Banshees of Inisherin”) and Jenna Ortega (“Wednesday”) in the fourth film from “Krisha,” “It Comes at Night” and “Waves” helmer Trey Edward Shults.
Title and plot details are being kept under wraps, but the project is already filming with Shults directing from a script he co-wrote with Tesfaye and Reza Fahim. Tesfaye, Fahim, Kevin Turen and Harrison Kreiss are producing with Shultz and Ortega executive producing.
Tesfaye has reportedly been developing the project for some time with Shults coming onboard in recent months. Work on the script then began and though Ortega and Keoghan are in high demand right now following their recent successes, both made it clear this will be their next project.
This marks Tesfaye’s feature acting debut in a leading role following a brief cameo in “Uncut Gems”. He will be seen leading his own drama series “The Idol” on HBO later this year which was co-created by himself, Fahim and “Euphoria” creator Sam Levinson.
Also onboard are “Blonde” cinematographer Chayse Irvin, along with “Good Time” and “Uncut Gems” composer OPN aka Daniel Lopatin. OPN and The Weeknd will handle scoring duties for the project.
Ortega will be seen in cinemas next week with the release of “Scream VI” whilst Keoghan recently wrapped work on Emerald Fennell’s next film “Saltburn”.
