With James Cameron’s “Avatar” films, we know that the second, third and part of the fourth were all shot together.
With the second having been released in cinemas to great success, Cameron is now in post-production on the third film and gearing up to shoot the fourth and fifth sometime soon.
Recently actress Sigourney Weaver, our promoting Paul Schrader’s new film “Master Gardener,” has revealed that she’s set to film more stuff for the third entry, with the production set to do some pickups.
Speaking with Screen Rant, she says the reshoots aren’t full scenes though, simple tweaks so that Cameron can get what he wants:
“I know that in January, I go back and probably do some pickups, I don’t think there are whole new scenes to be shot. I think it’s going to be refining what [James Cameron’s] got now that he’s closing in on the edit, because he always has too much material. He loves to shoot. I wouldn’t even begin to guess of what we might be doing, but I think it’s just maybe going back to a couple of moments and giving him some footage that he didn’t get the way he wants to.”
Previously her co-star Zoe Saldana indicated she was headed back “this summer [to] finish it up” work on the third film – suggesting she’s either filming her scenes separately or the pickups were pushed back.
“Avatar 3” is still slated to release on December 20th 2024.
