New Line’s acclaimed horror-mystery-dark comedy “Weapons” looks set to take the top spot at the box-office this weekend, the film taking in $5.7 million in previews on Thursday.
Scoring a stellar 96% with critics on Rotten Tomatoes, the film looks likely to beat the $30 million mark that’s on the current high end of projections.
New Line’s “Final Destination: Bloodlines” earlier this year earned $5.5 million in previews ahead of a $51.5 million opening weekend domestically.
In addition, Disney’s body-swapping comedy “Freakier Friday” landed $3.1 million in previews, which included special sneaks on Wednesday. Those preview numbers seem to suggest it will hit pre-release projections of around $30 million.
“Freakier Friday” has scored fairly good critical reviews and a strong 94% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Either way, the fight for No. 1 domestically between the pair will push “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” from the top spot, with many eyes set to monitor how much it will drop.
