Washington, Vikander Are “Born to Be Murdered”

Netflix has picked up the rights to the Luca Guadagnino-produced thriller “Born to Be Murdered” starring John David Washington (“Tenet”) and Alicia Vikander (“Tomb Raider”).

Shot in Greece in 2019, the project marks the English-language directorial debut of Ferdinando Cito Filomarino – the second unit helmer on “Call Me By Your Name” and “Suspiria”.

Written by Kevin Rice, the story is set in Athens and the Epirus region of Greece and tells of a vacationing couple (Washington and Vikander) who fall prey to a violent conspiracy with tragic consequences.

Vicky Krieps (“Phantom Thread”) co-stars. No release date was given but a 2021 debut is expected.

The acquisition follows on from Netflix picking up another John David Washington-led project, the black-and-white romantic drama “Malcolm & Marie,” for upwards of a reported $30 million last month.
