British acting veteran Warwick Davis says he’s both in mourning and frustrated over not just the cancellation but the removal from the Disney+ platform of the 2022 fantasy/adventure series “Willow”.
Disney famously removed the series from its streaming service back in May alongside several others including FX’s “Pistol” miniseries, and Hulu’s “Y: The Last Man”. Reaction to this eight-episode sequel series to the famed Ron Howard-directed 1988 film was varied, but the reaction to its removal was anything but.
Staff writer John Bickerstaff summed up the sentiment in several tweets saying: “They gave us six months. Not even. This business has become absolutely cruel… to spend [REDACTED] on a show and then disappear it six months later is just bad business.”
Now, in a post yesterday on Twitter a full five months after the removal, Davis has finally reacted to what happened and says:
“I meet lovely people on a daily basis who are fans of Willow, who are the reason the Disney+ series was made. Please tell me Disney, what do I say to these subscribers when they ask why they can’t watch the series any more? #embarrassing”
The show took place 20 years after Willow Ufgood (Davis) and Sorsha (Joanne Whalley) defeated Queen Bavmorda (Jean Marsh) and saved the realm from darkness in the fantasy drama. When a new evil threatens to overtake their world, Sorsha’s daughter Kit (Cruz) and a ragtag group of young heroes strike out to find Willow, whom they believe to be their greatest hope.
