Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures have announced new dates for two major tentpole films that serve as follow-ups to pandemic-era success stories that each earned over $400 million worldwide.
First up, the conclusion to Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic has been delayed a few weeks with “Dune: Part Two” being pushed back from October 20th 2023 to the pre-Thanksgiving window of November 17th 2023.
The new date will coincide with a release in IMAX theaters but will be vying with stiffer competition with “The Hunger Games” prequel, “Trolls 3” and the Ryan Reynolds/John Krasinski-led “Imaginary Friends” all opening that weekend.
Filming on the second half of the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s iconic novel is set to begin shortly.
Next, the “Godzilla vs. Kong” sequel has set a March 15th 2024 release date. That will see the currently untitled film arriving three years after the first hit cinemas.
Dan Stevens will star in the film which sees him reuniting with his “The Guest” director Adam Wingard on the project that will be shot in Queensland Australia.
