WarnerMedia is reportedly looking to sell off anime subscription-streaming service Crunchyroll with the current asking price said to be at least $1 billion.
Crunchyroll features more than 1,000 titles and 30,000 episodes which allows it to claim to be the world’s largest anime library. They surpassed three million paying subscribers worldwide last month, along with having more than 70 million registered users.
Sony Pictures Entertainment, which operates their major competitor Funimation, is said to be one of the potential buyers though others are being pitched to. The sell off is due to AT&T trying to clear its massive debt load.
The service is part of WarnerMedia’s Otter Media division which also includes Rooster Teeth, Fullscreen, and VRV. A no-ads subscription currently runs at $7.99 per month and includes simulcasts of Japanese programming as quickly as one hour after they air in the country.
