A bunch of new 4K Ultra HD discs from the likes of Paramount, Shout! Factory and Arrow Video have now confirmed street dates, including some bonafide cinematic classics.
John Hughes’ “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” will hit November 22nd and will include over an hour of never-before-seen deleted and extended scenes, Dylan Baker’s original audition for the character of Owen, and the film in 4K and Dolby Vision.
Laika Studios is getting into the 4K arena with both “ParaNorman” and “Coraline” getting Steelbook releases on December 13th. Both films get new 4K Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio presentations remastered in-house at Laika. All legacy extras will be included and should the titles do well, it’s expected the other films of their animated catalogue will follow in 2023.
Shout! and Scream Factory have set a December 20th release for “WarGames” which will offer a brand new 4K Dolby Vision restoration of the John Badham-directed film from the original camera negative along with legacy extras. They’re also doing the same full restoration treatment with three-disc sets of the original “Black Christmas” and “Carrie” on December 13th.
Finally, Arrow Video has set a December 5th release for Mike Hodges’ “Croupier,” and a December 12th release for Douglas Trumbull’s “Silent Running,” with both titles following their release of David Cronenberg’s “Videodrome” on October 24t.
