“Wakanda” Has Big Early Box-Office Projections

Marvel

The earliest box-office projections for Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” are out, and the numbers are huge.

Box-Office Pro, which has a long track record of early projections and is often on the ball, reports that estimates are the film could beat the original 2018 film’s $202 million opening weekend.

Early tracking estimates indicate the film is targeting an opening anywhere in the $180-225 million range. That would overtake the $187 million opening weekend gross of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” earlier this year (the biggest of 2022 to date),

It would also put it as one of the bigger box-office opening weekends of all time – around the $207 million start of “The Avengers,” $208 million of “Jurassic World” and potentially challenging the $220 million start of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”.

A new featurette for the film is also out with commentary by Ryan Coogler and the cast on their emotional return to Wakanda, the arrival of Tenoch Huerta’s Namor, and how they intend to honor Chadwick Boseman’s legacy through the film.
