HBO Max has given a straight-to-series order to the period comedy “Our Flag Means Death” with Taika Waititi to direct the pilot and executive produce.
Created by showrunner David Jenkins (“People of Earth”), the series is loosely based on the rollicking misadventures of Stede Bonnet, a pampered aristocrat who abandoned his life of privilege to become a pirate.
An episode count has not yet been determined, while Garrett Basch and Dan Halsted will also executive produce. Waititi will work on the project after wrapping “Thor: Love and Thunder” for Marvel Studios.
