VOTD: “Ghost of Yotei” Japan Landscapes

Sucker Punch Productions

A lot of love for Sucker Punch Productions’ “Ghost of Tsushima” revolved around the sheer beauty of its game world and stunning art direction.

From the bamboo groves and coastal villages, to cherry blossom glades, maple forests, foggy reed-filled wetlands and icy mountains, it was a world where everything was alive, colorful and constantly moving with the wind.

Many players spent hours just taking in the beautiful scenery alongside Shigeru Umebayashi and Ilan Eshkeri’s lush score.

Now, just a few weeks ahead of the release of the follow-up “Ghost of Yotei,” Sony has premiered a new ten-minute clip showcasing nearly two dozen lush locales from the new title – no commentary, no fast cutting, no story, no talking heads, just ambient atmosphere.

Set to an extended version of “The North” from the original soundtrack composed by Toma Otowa, the clip is like a sped up Apple TV aerial screensaver – every 30 seconds or so changing to show off a new stunning vista that players will encounter in their travels in the game across Ezo (what is now Hokkaido).

From sheer waterfalls and frozen lakes, to fertile fields and dark grottos, there seems an obvious effort to move away from all the green grass of ‘Tsushima’ for even more varied locales this time out.

“Ghost of Yotei” is set to hit the PS5 exclusively on October 2nd.
