The David Harbour-led holiday action comedy “Violent Night” is on track to earn $10 million in its first weekend of release.
The R-rated feature cost just $20 million to produce and reviews have been mixed/positive for the film in which the “Stranger Things” star plays an ultra-violent Santa Claus taking down an elite group of mercenaries holding a family hostage. Tommy Wirkola directs.
Marvel’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is expected to take the top spot for a fourth weekend in a row with a further $22-25 million to be added to its coffers. That film has pulled in $678 million globally thus far.
Meanwhile, Paramount’s “Top Gun: Maverick” is flying back one select premium large format screens and IMAX, from Friday for two weeks and basically has a clear run on those big screens until “Avatar: The Way of Water” arrives on December 16th.
