The History Channel’s “Vikings” may have wrapped up just a few weeks ago after 89 episodes over six seasons, but the spin-off series “Vikings: Valhalla” being created for Netflix is just getting started.
Creator Michael Hirst has confirmed to Collider that the first season has already finished filming in Ireland, at the same studio where its progenitor was shot.
Jeb Stuart, who co-wrote a bunch of iconic 1980s and 1990s films including “Die Hard,” “The Fugitive,” “Leviathan,” “Just Cause,” and “Lockup,” serves as writer and showrunner this time and the show is “much more of a thriller”.
In addition, there won’t be any History Channel-necessitated forms of censoring, with Netflix telling the producers “we’re not even going to filter out content.” The new series is set in the early 11th century.
That’s not all though as the full main cast list has been announced and they’re sticking with what works. After “Vikings” started off focused on a character played by an Australian model/actor (Travis Fimmel), they’ve done the same again here – enlisting “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” actor Sam Corlett for the lead role of Leif Eriksson.
Other cast include Frida Gustavsson as Freydis Eriksdotter, Leo Suter as Harald Sigurdsson, Bradley Freegard as King Canute, Johannes Johannesson as Olaf Haraldson, Laura Berlin as Emma of Normandy, David Oakes as Earl Godwin, Caroline Henderson as Jarl Haakon, Pollyanna McIntosh as Queen Aelfgifu, and Asbjorn Krogh Nissen as Jarl Kare.
