“Venom 3,” “Shang-Chi 2” Filming Talk

Marvel, Sony Pictures

Actor Tom Hardy has confirmed that pre-production is underway on the third “Venom” movie. The actor took to Instagram to confirm the news along with showing off a deleted scene from the first movie.

That scene shows his Eddie Brock character arguing with Venom to try and enter a hospital – leading to Hardy arguing and physically fighting with himself on a sidewalk as perplexed pedestrians scurry past. The full clip is available here.

“Venom 3” will be directed by Kelly Marcel, who is also writing the film with Hardy returning to the role and filming to run from June to September this year in the UK. That would suggest a likely late 2024 release for the film.

In less concrete scheduling news, a new report from insider KC Walsh (via The Direct) indicates the “Shang-Chi” and “Eternals” sequels have been added to the Marvel Studios production calendar with development “officially underway” and plans for filming likely to be laid out soon.

The big question of course is when. Reports back in 2021 suggested the film was aiming to begin production this year ahead of an early 2025 release.

That became questionable following the Phase 5 & 6 slate reveals which indicated the first film’s director Destin Daniel Cretton was attached to direct “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” along with the undated “Shang-Chi” follow-up.

‘Kang’ is currently slated for a May 2025 release and Marvel has three unannounced film slots set aside for July 2025, November 2025 and February 2026.
