Four of the biggest film festivals of the year have announced their jury members, even as some of these festivals are a good half-year off.
Cate Blanchett will preside over the main competition jury at the Venice Film Festival in September. The international jury will assign the Golden Lion for Best Film, as well as other official awards for the festival which has become a major awards launchpad in recent years.
Spike Lee has become the first black filmmaker to preside over the Cannes film festival jury. Lee has premiered seven films at the festival in his time including 2018’s “BlacKkKlansman”.
Next, the likes of Ethan Hawke, Dee Rees, Nanfu Wang, Isabella Rossellini, Rodrigo Garcia, artist Cindy Sherman, E. Chai Vasarhelyi, and Emily Mortimer will serve as jury members at the Sundance Film Festival kicking off next Friday.
This all follows on from last week’s news that Jeremy Irons will serve as president of the International Jury at the Berlin International Film Festival in March.
