Reginald VelJohnson (“Die Hard,” “Family Matters”) will reprise his role as David Sutton in the TV series follow-up to the 1989 Tom Hanks-led comedy “Turner and Hooch”.
“Burn Notice” creator Matt Nix is show running the series about ambitious, buttoned-up US Marshal Scott Turner (Josh Peck) who inherits a big unruly dog, he soon realizes the dog he didn’t want may be the partner he needs.
VelJohnson’s character David was the partner to Hanks’ Detective Scott Turner and helped him solve the biggest case in Cypress Beach History in the film. Three decades on, David is now mayor of Cypress Beach and a close family friend to his old partner’s kids, Scott (Peck) and Laura (Lyndsy Fonseca).
Little happens in Cypress Beach that Mayor Sutton doesn’t know about and when Scott and Laura begin investigating one of their father’s old cases, it’s only a matter of time until David’s involved. At present, there are no plans for a Tom Hanks appearance.
Carra Patterson, Brandon Jay McLaren, Anthony Ruivivar, Jeremy Maguire and Vanessa Lengies co-star in the series with McG set to direct the premiere episode and executive produce alongside Michael Horowitz, Robert Duncan McNeill and Mary Viola.
