Warner Bros. Games has released a new trailer for “Mortal Kombat 1,” this one featuring a “Bloodsport”-era Jean-Claude Van Damme.
The Muscles from Brussels and “Timecop” star is available in-game as a special alternative skin for the Johnny Cage character and can be unlocked by players who purchase the title’s Premium Edition.
The first Van Damme footage was shown as part of an interview with series co-creator Ed Boon on the Hot Ones podcast. Boon revealed this DLC was three decades in the making.
He told the outlet: “When we made the very first game, our intention was to make Van Damme: The Arcade Game. We actually wanted to see the words ‘Van Damme’.”
His reps declined. They’ve subsequently tried a number of times over the years, going back and forth with him. Now they finally got him: “We actually have his voice, and he’s going to be the Johnny Cage character, and it’s the absolute full circle moment that we had.”
Van Damme joins the game which earlier this week announced the casting of Megan Fox as Nitara. “Mortal Kombat 1” will be released on September 19th for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
