Vacation Rebooted As An Hbo Max Sitcom

Former “The Big Bang Theory” star Johnny Galecki is spearheading a reboot of the “National Lampoon’s Vacation” franchise, this time reinventing it as a half-hour single camera comedy series titled “The Griswolds” for the upcoming HBO Max streaming service.

The project currently has a script development deal and will follow the disaster-prone family and their daily lives in the suburbs of modern-day Chicago.

Tim Hobert (“The Middle,” “Community”) will pen the script and executive produce the comedy alongside Galecki and Holly Brown. Warner Bros. Television will produce.

Chevy Chase, Beverly D’Angelo and Randy Quaid starred in the original four “Vacation” films while the property was revived as a not well-regarded revival in 2015 which is mostly remembered for a scene with Chris Hemsworth strutting about with a giant prosthetic dong in his briefs.

It’s unclear if any cast members from previous films will appear as it’s not yet clear if this will be a continuation or a full reboot.
