“Up” Sequel Short “Carl’s Date” Gets A Trailer

Disney

Pixar has premiered a trailer for “Carl’s Date,” the short film sequel to 2009’s “Up” which will play in cinemas before the new Pixar film “Elemental” opens this Friday, June 16th.

The short film goes home with Carl Fredricksen (Ed Asner) and his lovable talking dog, Dug (Bob Peterson). Carl reluctantly agrees to go on a date with a lady friend – but admittedly has no idea how dating works these days.

Ever the helpful friend, Dug steps in to calm Carl’s pre-date jitters and offer some tried-and-true tips for making friends – if you’re a dog.

The original film followed the elderly widower who travels to South America with child wilderness explorer Russell (Jordan Nagai) in order to fulfil a promise that Carl made to his late wife Ellie. That’s where he’s introduced to Dug (Peterson) and encounter a giant bird being hunted by elderly explorer Charles Muntz (Christopher Plummer) whom Carl once idolized in childhood.

The short is written and directed by Oscar nominee and Emmy winner Bob Peterson and produced by Kim Collins. Peterson co-wrote the original film which was a box office hit, received critical acclaim and won two Oscars from five nominations.

“Elemental” is so far pulling in positive reviews, albeit on the softer side for Pixar with a 78% (6.6/10) on Rotten Tomatoes.
