“Up,” “Moana,” “Cars” Spin-Off Series Set

Disney Animation’s section of the Disney investor day conference today was packed with announcements as effectively every Disney and Pixar film of the past few years is setting a spin-off series for the service.

Three new Pixar shows are on the way. “Dug Days” is a spin-off of “Up” as the dog Dug discovers the dangers of suburbia like puppies, fireworks, and squirrels. It arrives Fall 2021.

Next is a “Cars” spin-off series following Lightning McQueen and Mater on a road trip across the country. This features new characters, old friends, and imaginative destinations and arrives Fall 2022.

“Win or Lose” is a long-form animated series about a middle school softball team in the week leading up to their championship game, each episode is told from the perspective of a different character. That arrives Fall 2023.

Onto the Disney Animation shows with four series spin-offs of Disney animated movies. This includes loveable Baymax from “Big Hero 6” who is getting his own series titled “Baymax” set in San Fransokyo where he uses his new powers to zip around and help people.

Next is “Zootopia+” which is a collection of shorts featuring some of the movie’s most popular characters like Fru Fru, Tiger Dancers and Flash the sloth as they star in reality shows.

Finally two popular modern Disney princesses will headline their own long-form musical series – “Moana” and “Tiana” with the latter from “The Princess and the Frog”.

Finally Pan-African entertainment company Kugali will team with the studio for “Iwaju,” an all-new, science fiction series coming to Disney+ in 2022.
