Universal Sets “Minions” & “Sing” Sequel Dates

Universal Pictures has set new release dates for its two Illumination Entertainment animated features.

“Minions: The Rise of Gru” which was to release on July 3rd 2020 will now arrive a full year later – July 2nd 2021. The film follows the Minions in the 1970s during their first encounter with a young Felonious Gru (Steve Carell), a 12-year-old with a dream to become the world’s greatest supervillain.

As a result of that shift, the “Sing” sequel is leaving its July 2nd 2021 old release date and is moving to December 22nd 2021. Plot specifics for it are under wraps.

That move has also seen the long in the works “Wicked” musical feature bumped from its December 2021 slot, with a new date for that project not yet set.
