One of the last remaining June theatrical releases, the “Candyman” remake at Universal Pictures and MGM, has been delayed.
Originally slated for a June 12th release, the film is now targeting a September 25th opening. The faith-based “Praise This,” previously set for release on September 25th, has been pulled from that slot and will release at a later time.
The newest entry in the horror franchise is dubbed a ‘spiritual sequel’ to the original rather than a reboot and returns to Cabrini Green – the now-gentrified Chicago neighborhood where the legend began.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II plays an artist who returns to Cabrini Green and soon it looks as though Candyman is trying to manifest himself physically in the man’s form. Teyonah Parris, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Colman Domingo and Tony Todd co-star in the film which Nia DaCosta helms.
