Back in 2017, Ubisoft teased its Indian Ocean-set golden age of piracy game “Skull and Bones” at E3 which was in the works at the developer.

Led by developer Ubisoft Singapore, the third-person perspective game was a single-player or co-op-driven title. It drew heavy inspiration from the naval battles of “Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag” as it was initially envisioned as an expansion of that game before becoming its own thing.

Then the project for the most part vanished, Ubisoft never really bringing it up again beyond talk of delays during financial calls.

Reports emerged last year that Ubisoft had effectively started over from scratch in 2019, ditching the single-player in favour of a live-service game with a “live storytelling model in the vein of ‘Fortnite'”. What was to be akin to “Black Flag” was now sounding more akin to “Sea of Thieves”.

Whatever the result though, it seems there will be no more delays. The title has popped up on the ratings boards of Brazil and South Korea, and now the title has officially scored an M for Mature ESRB rating for North America and other regions.

It landed the rating for “Blood, Strong Language, Suggestive Themes, Use of Drugs, Violence” – suggesting this ain’t no children’s game. It also confirms there will be in-game purchases, but it’s not clear if that’s DLC or microtransactions (or both).

The rating news suggests the game is nearly complete and would match Ubisoft’s statement the other week suggesting it will arrive sometime between October 2022-March 2023. Try Hard Guides also posted a report this week suggesting the publisher is planning to ‘re-reveal’ the game in the days after the July 4th holiday weekend.
