Ubisoft Montreal has taken over development on the already well-delayed remake of the iconic game “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time”.
The game was previously in development at Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, but now returns home to Ubisoft Montreal where the original “Sands of Time” was created.
The company said in a statement on Tuesday the change will see the team: “building upon the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai” rather than chucking things out and starting afresh.
They say: “[we] will now take the time they need to regroup on the scope of the game to deliver you the best experience for this remake of an all-time classic, when it’s ready.”
The game began development back in early 2018 with the first trailer revealed in September 2020. That trailer yielded such a negative reaction the company set out to retool the work and most recently scheduled to release it sometime before Easter 2023. That’s now up in the air.
The project is separate from Ubisoft Montpellier’s “Ori”-inspired 2.5D “Prince of Persia” game also in the works.
