Tyler Perry To Direct 6888th Battalion Film

Netflix

Tyler Perry has set the period drama “Six Triple Eight” as his next directorial effort at Netflix.

The film is based on an article by Kevin M. Hymel and follows the 6888th battalion – the only all-black, all-female battalion in the World War II effort.

This group of 855 women joined the war effort with little knowledge of what exactly they would be doing, but were quickly given an impossible mission: sort through and fix the three-year backlog of undelivered mail – around 17 million letters and packages in all.

A herculean task that most thought to be impossible, the women not only succeeded but did it in half the time they were given – all whilst facing discrimination, an unfamiliar land, and a war-torn country in the process.

They ultimately reconnected American soldiers with their families and loved ones back home. Tyler Perry, Nicole Avant, Keri Selig, Carlota Espinosa, Angi Bones and Tony Strickland all produce.
