TV Spot: The Year Of “Michael”

Lionsgate

Lionsgate and Universal Pictures have premiered a new TV spot for “Michael,” the upcoming biopic about Michael Jackson that is being directed by Antoine Fuqua and produced by “Bohemian Rhapsody” producer Graham King.

The spot, dubbing 2026 ‘The Year of Michael’, is mostly footage from the teaser plus a handful of new shots. The project is described as the cinematic portrayal of the life and legacy of one of the most influential artists the world has ever known.

It follows Michael Jackson’s life beyond the music, tracing his journey from the discovery of his extraordinary talent as the lead of the Jackson Five, to the visionary artist whose creative ambition fueled a relentless pursuit to become the biggest entertainer in the world.

The film highlights both his life off-stage and some of the most iconic performances from his early solo career and adds that ‘this is where his story begins’. The movie underwent three weeks of reshoots in June 2025 to rework some of the third act.

Michael Jackson’s real-life nephew Jafaar Jackson is playing Michael in the film, which also stars Colman Domingo, Nia Long, Miles Teller, Laura Harrier, Kat Graham, Larenz Tate, and Derek Luke.

John Logan penned the script for the movie that opens in cinemas on April 24th.
