War of the Worlds
AMC Premiere has acquired BBC One’s three-part HG Wells adaptation “The War of the Worlds” starring Rafe Spall, Eleanor Tomlinson and Robert Carlyle. Set in Edwardian England, the story follows a couple as they attempt to start a life together against the escalating terror of an alien invasion. The AMC sale means the drama is now available in 221 territories worldwide. [Source: Deadline]
The English
Amazon has picked up North American rights to the Emily Blunt-led BBC and Drama Republic western event series “The English” which hails from writer-director Hugo Blick (“The Honorable Woman,” “Black Earth Rising”). Plot specifics are under wraps. [Source: Variety]
More Happy Than Not
HBO Max, Engine Entertainment and eOne will adapt Adam Silvera’s young adult novel “More Happy Than Not” into a one-hour drama series. Silvera and Drew Comins serve as executive producers with a writer currently being sought.
Set in a dangerous summer in the Bronx, 16-year-old Aaron Soto is struggling to find happiness since his father’s suicide. He soon starts hanging out with new guy, Thomas, and can’t turn off his feelings for him so he heads plans to undergo the Leteo institute’s revolutionary memory-alteration procedure to straighten himself out. The Two Princes
Spotify and HBO Max are in final negotiations to adapt hit family podcast “The Two Princes” into a 60-minute animated special for the soon to launch streaming video portal. Noah Galvin, Samira Wiley, Cynthia Erivo, Christine Baranski and Ari’el Stachel lend their voices to the podcast but it’s not clear if they’ll crossover to this as yet.
Kevin Christopher Snipes will pen the adaptation which follows a prince who sets out to break the mysterious curse that’s destroying his kingdom. What he isn’t prepared for are the bewildering new emotions he feels when he meets the handsome Amir, a rival prince on a quest to save his own realm. The two soon team up and fall in love. Westworld
HBO has released the official poster for the third season of its sci-fi drama “Westworld,” a one-sheet featuring the prototype version of one of the park’s hosts deteriorating in the desert. The third season, which returns March 15th, will be set several years on in a near-future LA and catch up with Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) who has struck up a friendship with a construction worker named Caleb (Aaron Paul).
