Memorial
A24 has picked up Bryan Washington’s upcoming novel “Memorial” for its TV division with Washington reportedly set to adapt his work into a TV project himself. The story is dubbed a funny and profound tale about family and has Scott Rudin and Eli Bush attached to produce.

The story follows a committed Texan gay couple – a Japanese American chef at a Mexican restaurant and a Black day care teacher – currently in a rough patch when the chef’s acerbic Japanese mother arrives. The chef scurries off to Japan to learn the truth about his family and his past, while his mother and partner are stuck in the U.S. and become unconventional roommates. [Source: Deadline]

Slay
Multiple award winner and “Watchmen” star Regina King will executive produce the supernatural drama series “Slay” currently in development at The CW. Julian Johnson is attached to write and co-executive produce the series, while Pam Veasey is supervising and executive producing for CBS Television Studios.

The story will focus on Carson Jones, a witty teenager with afro puffs, leather boots, seventies cool, and – thanks to her mother’s ancient African bloodline – supernatural gifts and the responsibility to use them to protect Virginia’s Historic triangle from the forces of darkness. [Source: Variety]
