Netflix has announced that 48 million people have tuned into the Sarah Paulson-fronted and Ryan Murphy-exec produced drama “Ratched,” making it the streamer’s best new original launch of the year.

The figure accounts for the show’s first 28 days, with the company saying it’s the “biggest original season one of the year”. The streamer has seen the likes of “Umbrella Academy,” “You” and “Sex Education” all debut to numbers in the 40 million or over range in recent years. [Source: LADBible]

The Book of Malachi
Little Island Productions has acquired TV rights to T. C. Farren’s sci-fi thriller novel “The Book of Malachi”. The story follows Malachi, a mute thirty-year-old man who receives a job offer – in exchange for six months as a warden on a top-secret organ-farming project, Raizier Pharmaceuticals will graft him a new tongue. Malachi finds himself on an oil rig among warlords and mass murderers but the book ponders whether the prisoner-donors deserve their fate. [Source: Deadline]

Interior Chinatown
Hulu is developing a TV series based on Charles Yu’s latest novel “Interior Chinatown” with Yu adapting his own work. The story follows an Asian-American actor struggling against clichéd roles and stereotypes, both at work and in his personal life. Dan Lin, Lindsey Liberatore and Elsie Choi executive produce. First Kill
Netflix has given an eight-episode series order to the young adult vampire drama “First Kill” with Emma Roberts set to executive produce this adaptation of V.E. Schwab’s story. Schwab created the series and will serve as co-writer and executive producer.

When it’s time for teenage vampire Juliette to make her first kill so she can take her place among a powerful vampire family, she sets her sights on a new girl in town named Calliope. But much to Juliette’s surprise, Calliope is a vampire hunter in a family of celebrated slayers. The two ultimately fall in love. [Source: EW]

Everybody Loves Diamonds
Amazon has announced the new Italian original comedic heist series “Everybody Loves Diamonds” which is inspired by the biggest diamond theft in the world in Antwerp in 2003. Mario Gianani and Lorenzo Gangarossa are producing.

The story follows a group of thieves, led by Sicilian mastermind Leonardo Notarbartolo, who managed to circumvent the advanced security system of the Antwerp Diamond Center and steal precious stones worth more than $100 million. [Source: Variety]

Industry
HBO has released a trailer for its new eight-episode drama series “Industry” from first-time creators Mickey Down and Konrad Kay. Myha’la Herrold, Marisa Abela, Harry Lawtey, David Jonsson and Nabhaan Rizwan star in the series premiering November 9th.

The story follows a group of young graduates competing for a limited number of permanent positions at a leading international bank in London. The show examines issues of gender, race and class in the workplace as the impressionable new employees begin to forge an identity within the pressure cooker environment of Pierpoint & Co.’s trading floor.
