Ironheart
Lyric Ross (“This Is Us”) has joined Dominique Thorne and Anthony Ramos in Marvel’s Disney+ series “Ironheart”. Chinaka Hodge (“Snowpiercer”) serves as head writer and filming begins in June in Atlanta.
Thorne will star as Riri Williams, a brilliant teenage inventor who, in the comics, builds her own version of the Iron Man suit in an MIT dorm. Ross will play Williams’ best friend. [Source: THR]
Manhunt
Anthony Boyle (“Masters of the Air”) and Lovie Simone (“Greenleaf”) have joined the Apple limited series “Manhunt” alongside Tobias Menzies.
Menzies will star as Edwin Stanton, Abraham Lincoln’s War Secretary and friend, who was driven nearly to madness by the need to catch Lincoln’s assassin John Wilkes Booth (Boyle). Simone plays former slave and doctor Mary Simms (Simone). [Source: Variety]
Cal Fire
Max Thieriot (“SEAL Team,” “Bates Motel”) has signed on for the lead role in the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced CBS drama pilot “Cal Fire”. Thieriot co-wrote the story for the series inspired by his life.
In the series, he plays a young convict who joins a firefighting program that returns him to his small Northern California hometown, where he and other inmates work alongside elite firefighters to extinguish massive blazes across the region. [Source: Variety]
Untitled Basquiat Series
Stephan James (“If Beale Street Could Talk”) will play iconic artist Jean-Michel Basquiat in a limited TV drama series from Boat Rocker and Bay Mills Studios.
The project will be set during the 1980s, as Basquiat emerges from being an obscure graffiti artist born in Brooklyn to becoming a neo-expressionist painter of rock-star status in Manhattan. James and Shamier Anderson will produce. [Source: THR]
