TV News: Billions, World, Batwoman, Mandalorian

Billions
Showtime has renewed its drama series “Billions” for a sixth season, at the same time promoting Corey Stoll to series regular. Paul Giamatti, Damian Lewis, Asia Kate Dillon, Maggie Siff, David Costabile, Condola Rashad, Kelly AuCoin and Jeffrey DeMunn also star.

Stoll joined in a recurring role in the recent fifth season as Mike Prince, a business titan and social impact pioneer who poses a true threat to Axe’s dominance. Showtime previously announced the fifth season would be split in two parts due to changes in production prompted by the coronavirus pandemic. The second half will air sometime in 2021, followed by the sixth season. [Source: TV Line]

Batwoman
Alex Morf (“Mindhunter,” “Daredevil”) will guest star as the villain Victor Zsasz in the upcoming second season of The CW’s “Batwoman”. This version is a “charismatic, skilled hitman with high, unpredictable energy” but he still proudly carves tally marks onto his skin for every victim he kills.

The role has been on screen a lot lately with a scene stealing turn by “Barry” star Anthony Carrigan in the part on several seasons of FOX’s “Gotham,” and more recently by Chris Messina in the “Birds of Prey” film. The new season is currently targeting a January premiere. [Source: EW]

Between the World and Me
HBO has released the first trailer for its one-off special adaptation of the acclaimed book “Between the World and Me” which boasts an all-star cast including Mahershala Ali, Angela Bassett, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Jharrel Jerome, Wendell Pierce, Phylicia Rashad, Courtney B. Vance, Joe Morton, Kendrick Sampson and Oprah Winfrey among many others.

Coates penned the 2015 book formatted as a letter to his teenage son, centers on the author’s thoughts and experiences on being Black in the United States. Originally adapted and staged by the Apollo Theater in 2018, the special will combine elements of that production with documentary footage from the actors’ home life, archival footage, and animation.

The Mandalorian
Disney+ has released a new poster for the second season of “The Mandalorian” ahead of the show’s return on Friday, October 30th. The new season features the returns of Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett, Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan in live-action form and Rosario Dawson apparently as Padawan turned spymaster Ahsoka Tano. Timothy Olyphant also stars.
