Resident Alien
Syfy has handed out a second season renewal for its Alan Tudyk-led dramedy “Resident Alien” which has been Syfy’s highest-rated new drama in more than six years with the premiere pulling in 9.3 million total viewers across all platforms. The ten-episode series, based on the Dark Horse comic of the same name, airs its first season finale on March 31st. [Source: The Live Feed]
The Midnight Club
Mike Flanagan’s new Netflix series “The Midnight Club” has started filming. Based on the book by Christopher Pike, the series follows a group of teenagers in a home for terminally-ill patients who get together every day at midnight to share scary stories. World of Dance
NBC has cancelled the Jennifer Lopez-produced “World of Dance” after four seasons. The reality dance competition series featured dancers from all styles of the sport competing for a grand prize of $1 million. Lopez also served as a judge on the show, along with Ne-Yo and Derek Hough while Jenna Dewan and Scott Evans served as hosts. [Source: Variety]
The Drew Barrymore Show
CBS Media Ventures has renewed Drew Barrymore’s syndicated daytime series for a second season. The show has shown solid ratings gains throughout the season, growing +19% in homes, and double-digit growth on stations in the top five markets. [Source: Deadline]
Promos
Two key TV promos worth a look at today. The first is for Peacock’s new comedy “Rutherford Falls” starring Ed Helms as a man who takes on a small town and the Native American reservation that it borders when they propose moving a statue devoted to a local legend. It premieres on April 22nd.
The other is for “Sasquatch,” the Duplass Brothers produced docuseries that follows the story of an investigative journalist returning to a Northern California pot farm he visited in 1993 where three men were torn limb from limb in a savage attack by an apparent Bigfoot. It arrives on Hulu on April 20th.
Finally there’s the official trailer for the third season of Steven Soderbergh’s “The Girlfriend Experience,” this time penned and directed by Anja Marquardt. This UK-set installment looks at the world of sex through big tech, algorithms, online dating and the analytical world of neuroscience. It returns on May 2nd.
