A couple of book properties are being turned into limited or ongoing series.
eOne has picked up the rights to novelist-turned-TV writer Megan Abbott’s upcoming book “The Turnout” which is set in the hothouse world of a ballet school run by the Durant sisters, Dara and Marie, and Dara’s husband Charlie.
Soon they hire Derek, a charismatic, possibly shady contractor to renovate the studio, and Marie throws herself into an intense affair with him that threatens their tight bonds and brings forward family secrets until an act of violence overturns everything.
Next up, Bad Robot has secured the rights to develop Glennon Doyle’s best-selling memoir “Untamed” for Warner Bros. Television. Ben Stephenson will executive produce alongside Jessie Nelson and Doyle.
The story explores the joy and peace we discover when we stop striving to meet the expectations of the world, and start trusting the voice deep within us. The book has sold over one million copies worldwide in less than five months.
Finally, Warner Bros. Television has optioned Diane Cook novel “The New Wilderness” for Matt Reeves’ production company, 6th & Idaho, to develop as a television series. Cook will write the pilot and executive produce the series with Reeves, Daniel Pipski, and Adam Kassan.
The story follows a mother’s battle to save her five-year-old daughter in a world ravaged by climate change and now living in an overdeveloped metropolis most of the population now calls home. If they stay, the girl dies and so the only alternative is to reach a forbidden swath of untouched, protected land.
