Rising british actress Jodie Turner-Smith (“Without Remorse,” “After Yang”) and “Past Lives” breakout star Greta Lee have become the latest to join the quickly growing cast of “TRON: Ares” at Disney Pictures.

The pair join the already cast Jared Leto and Evan Peters in the film which Joachim Rønning (“Kon-Tiki,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”) will direct from a script by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne.

The first “TRON” film arrived in 1982, with Jeff Bridges starring as video game designer Kevin Flynn who is transported inside his own creation and teams up with a security program named TRON (Bruce Boxleitner).

Though a flop at the time it went on to become a cult hit. “Top Gun: Maverick” filmmaker Joseph Kosinski created the 2010 sequel “TRON: Legacy”. A decent performer at the box-office, it also became a cult hit with a celebrated visual style and soundtrack.

The new film will reportedly focus on the emergence of Ares, a sentient program that crosses over into the human world that is not ready for contact. Leto will play the human manifestation of that program.

Lee will play a video game programmer and tech company CEO who aims to protect her world-changing technology. Specifics of Turner-Smith’s role are under wraps.

Emma Ludbrook, Jeffrey Springer and Leto are producing. Filming on the project is expected to begin as early as August in Vancouver, though the potential actor’s strike could impact that.

Turner-Smith will be seen in the new Apple TV+ series “Bad Monkey” alongside Vince Vaughn, and recently finished filming the “Star Wars: The Acolyte” series. Lee most recently voice Lyla in Sony’s “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” film.
