Tubi & AVOD Service Demand Soars

Tubi Avod Service Demand Soars

Tubi, the FOX-owned advertising video-on-demand (AVOD) service, reportedly had 3.6 billion hours streamed in 2021 – an increase of 40%.

According to a report using data from research firm MarketCast, AVOD as a sector grew 16% in 2021 compared to more traditional SVOD services which grew 8%.

AVOD services like Tubi, Roku, Pluto and Crackle are generally free streaming services that make revenue through advertising rather than charging subscriptions that SVOD services like Netflix, HBO Max and Amazon do.

The Tubi report predicts AVOD viewership overall will surpass SVOD in 2022, helped along by platforms like Peacock and Discovery+ offering AVOD options as well as commercial-free SVOD options.

The report indicates 71% of Tubi’s viewers are not paying for cable TV, 56% of them do not watch linear TV and 62% don’t use Hulu.
