Nic Pizzolatto, the creator of HBO’s “True Detective,” has left behind that seasonal anthology series that is moving on without him.
That doesn’t mean he’s been quiet though, as the writer/director/producer has posted on his official Instagram account that he’s developing three new projects.
The first is “Easy’s Waltz,” an original feature that will see him reunite with “True Detective” S2 co-star Vince Vaughn who will play a Las Vegas singer in the project. Others have been cast, but no names are being revealed.
The second is “The Grass Rifles,” an original western television series he calls the most ‘populist, funniest and romantic’ thing he’s ever written. At present, he’s penned the first two episodes and a series outline.
The third is a film adaptation of Jack Beaumont’s international spy novel “The Frenchman” about the true-life experiences of a real officer in the DGSE (French external intelligence) who must stop a Pakistani bioweapons facility from developing a weaponized strain of bacteria, along with saving his reputation after a failed mission.
Will any of these get made? He says in his post: “Since all these projects require millions of dollars, and the market being what it is, I can’t guarantee you’ll actually get to watch all (or any) of them, but the wheels are in motion. All of which is just to assure the fans on here that I haven’t retired and am creating robustly (just not super-dark stories about murder and retribution).”
