With James Bond having abandoned its early April opening, the whole month is now fairly clear of big releases and so Dreamworks Animation’s “Trolls World Tour” is capitalising on that – moving up a week to April 10th to take the slot “No Time to Die” vacated.
This marks the first major studio move since the 007 moved this morning, and is not expected to be the last. It also benefits from not having to release globally as kids films are often staggered internationally to coincide with school holidays. The first “Trolls” grossed $153M domestic and nearly $347M worldwide.
Meanwhile movie exhibitors are having a bad day on the market with the Bond delay which is just the latest in a whole bunch of cancellations or postponements of major events related to media and entertainment.
