Norwegian action-adventure “Troll” has become Netflix’s most popular non-English film of all time in just two weeks since its release.
Roar Uthaug (“Tomb Raider,” “The Wave”) directs the film, which begins when deep inside a mountain in Norway, something gigantic awakens after being trapped for a thousand years.
Destroying everything in its path, the creature is fast approaching Oslo with city-dwellers struggling to stop something they thought existed only in folklore.
Ine Marie Wilmann, Kim Falck, Mads Pettersen and Gard B. Eidsvold co-star in the film which has scored very solid reviews and a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The film has racked up a total of 128 million hours viewed so far, easily taking the top spot on the non-English Netflix Top 10. It is also presently in the overall Netflix Top 10 in 93 countries, including Norway, France, Germany, the U.S., the U.K., Japan, South Korea, Brazil and Mexico.
Other popular non-English films on Netflix this year include “Blood Red Sky,” “The Platform” and the new “All Quiet on the Western Front”.
