Trailers Madman Mary Date Chicano Body

The Professor and the Madman
Several trailers today starting with the Mel Gibson and Sean Penn-led “The Professor and the Madman,” a Farhad Safinia-directed film about the genesis of the Oxford English Dictionary which hits cinemas and On Demand on May 10th.

Gibson plays Professor James Murray, who in 1857 set about compiling the Oxford English Dictionary, one of the most ambitious projects ever undertaken. Penn is Dr. W.C. Minor, who submitted more than 10,000 entries but also was an inmate at an asylum for the criminally insane. Natalie Dormer, Jeremy Irvine, Ioan Gruffudd and Jennifer Ehle co-star.

Mary Magdalene
The Biblical biopic “Mary Magdalene” finally comes to the U.S. on April 12th, over a year after it was first supposed to be released. Rooney Mara stars as the titular Mary opposite Joaquin Phoenix as Jesus Christ in what’s been dubbed an ‘authentic and humanistic portrait of one of the most enigmatic and misunderstood spiritual figures in history’.

The Perfect Date
Netflix’s pin-up boy and potential new He-Man, actor Noah Centineo, is back with his third teen rom-com for the streamer – “The Perfect Date”. Centineo plays a young guy working at a fast food place with dreams of going to Yale and dating his big crush. He decides to start a smartphone app where rich girls can pay him to be their ‘chaperone’ for a night. The film hits the service on April 12th.

El Chicano
Filmmaker Joe Carnahan (“The Grey,” “The A-Team”) returns with “El Chicano,” his spin on the superhero/vigilante formula turned violent crime drama. To avenge his brother’s murder, an L.A.P.D. Detective resurrects the masked street legend El Chicano to take down his childhood buddy turned vicious cartel kingpin. The film opens in cinemas May 3rd.

Body at Brighton Rock
There’s also a new trailer for “Body at Brighton Rock,” Roxanne Benjamin’s contained thriller in which a part-time summer parks employee must face down her fears as she discovers what might be a crime scene in the backwoods where she’s lost all communication as well as her map. With help on the way but constantly delayed, she must face an increasing amount of trials to survive. The film will debut in theaters and On Demand on April 26th.
