Paramount Home Media has premiered the trailer for the upcoming “The Godfather” trilogy 4K re-release timed for the 50th anniversary of the original 1972 film.

The original film will score a limited theatrical re-release on February 25th while March 22nd is the launch date for both the 4K UHD Blu-ray trilogy box-set and the new 4K restorations of all three films in digital storefronts.

Coppola reportedly oversaw the restoration process which boasted around 4000 hours spent on repairing the film followed by a further 1000 hours on color correction. All three films will be presented in full 4K resolution in both HDR10 and Dolby Vision formats.

The 2007 restoration’s famously worked on 5.1 audio is also included along with the original mono tracks for the first two films. There are also legacy bonus features, and several new pieces of extra materials including featurettes on the restoration, 8mm home movie footage shot in 1971 during production, and more.

The boxset will use Coppola’s recent ‘Coda’ recut of the third film as the definitive version in the set. The 1990 theatrical cut of “The Godfather Part III” is included but will be exclusive to the disc sets (no digital copies).
