IFC Films has released a new trailer and poster for their neo-Western thriller “God’s Country” starring Thandiwe Newton.
Based on James Lee Burke’s 2015 short story “Winter Light,” Newton plays Sandra Guidry – a former police officer turned grieving professor who moves to a snow-laden rural college town.
One day she discovers a red truck belonging to two hunters has been parked in front of her house and she soon becomes the target of a series of threats from members of the town.
Without any form of law enforcement to turn to, she enters an escalating battle of wills that will see her values put to the test.
Jefferson White, Jeremy Bobb, Joris Jarsky, Kai Lennox, and Tanaya Beatty co-star in the film which Julian Higgins directed. Premiering at Sundance earlier this year, the film is set to release in cinemas on September 16th.
