Searchlight has released the trailer for filmmaker Taika Waititi’s underdog comedy soccer movie “Next Goal Wins,” starring Michael Fassbender, Elisabeth Moss, Rhys Darby and Will Arnett which is finally coming out.

Based on the 2015 documentary of the same name, it follows the true story of Dutch coach Thomas Rongen who attempts the nearly impossible task of changing the fortunes of the American Samoa soccer team.

The perennial losers were infamous for their brutal 31-0 FIFA loss in 2001. With the World Cup Qualifiers approaching, the team hires a down-on-his-luck maverick coach (Fassbender) hoping he will help turn the world’s worst soccer team around.

Oscar Kightley, Uli Latukefu, Rachel House, Kaimana, David Fane, Beulah Koale, Chris Alosio and Waititi himself all star. Waititi also penned the script with Iain Morris.

Filming took place before Waititi got to work on Marvel’s “Thor: Love and Thunder” and the film has been sitting on a shelf for a while along with having to undergo reshoots to replace Armie Hammer’s performance with Will Arnett.

Garrett Basch, Jonathan Cavendish, Andy Serkis, Mike Brett and Steve Jamison produce. The film is set for a theatrical release on November 17th.
