A24 has premiered the first trailer for “Pillion,” the quirky British rom-com starring Harry Melling and Alexander Skarsgard.
Based on the 2020 novel “Box Hill”: by Adam Mars-Jones, Melling plays Colin – a sheepish young gay man who finds himself entering into a BDSM relationship with Ray (Skarsgard), the older and very handsome leader of a queer biker gang.
Colin essentially becomes Ray’s ‘pet’, but soon the arrangement begins to chafe as Colin wants a more conventional relationship with Ray.
Douglas Hodge, Lesley Sharp, Anthony Welsh, Miranda Bell, Billy King and Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears co-star.
Harry Lighton directs from a script co-written by ADam Mars-Jones. The film had its world premiere at Cannes and won Un Certain Regard’s Best Screenplay prize and the Palm Dog.
Reviews for the film are very strong, sitting at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes from 27 reviews, along with an 85/100 on Metacritic. Reviews paint it as wryly funny and surprisingly poignant.
A24 has yet to set a release date for the film.
